“When life gives you lemons, take it. Don’t waste food.”

Use it to clean your house!

Did you know that lemons are not only good for making lemonade or lemon meringue pie, but they are also amazing household helpers?

Grab a lemon and here’s how you can use lemon to clean your home.

1. Floor cleaner

Consider cleaning the floor with a mixture of 1 part lemon juice, 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water especially if you have kids/pets at home.

2. Clean plastic containers

Whether it’s mala, curry, rendang or pasta that you have kept as leftover in your Tupperware, just rub lemon juice and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing and it should get rid of the stains and smell!

3. Clean the microwave

Microwave a bowl of water and fresh lemon juice for 3 to 5 minutes. Wait another 5 minutes before opening the door, this allows the steam to do its work on the walls. Finally, remove the lemon water and wipe down the inside walls of the microwave.

4. Use it as an air freshener

Slice some lemons, cover with water, bring to a boil and let simmer in a pot for about an hour.
This is a great hack to freshen up the entire house especially if you have guests coming over!

5. Remove rust on knives

Make a paste with lemon juice and salt to remove rust spots.

6. Grout cleaning

The natural acidity in lemons is perfect for tackling any dirt or discoloration in grout.

Spray lemon juice on the target area and let sit for at least 10 minutes before scrubbing.

7. Freshen your fridge

Freshen your refrigerator by cutting a lemon in half and place it inside the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

8. Degreasing

The acid in lemon juice helps to cut through grease. Just add a few drops to the soapy dishwater.

9. Removing odour

Toss used lemons into your garbage disposal to help keep it clean and smelling fresh.

10. Clean kitchen and bathroom faucets

Rub kitchen and bathroom faucets with lemon peel. Wash and dry with a soft cloth to shine and remove spots.

Add-on tips!

Odour on your hands (e.g. garlic, onion, fish) can be removed by rubbing them with fresh lemons.

Keep insects away by squeezing lemon juice along windowsills or doors.

Lemon juice acts as a natural bleaching agent. Put lemon juice onto white linens and clothing and allow them to dry in the sun. Stains will be bleached away.
